"Furnishing a Fresh Start" grant from Soroptimist International of the Americas:
From July 2008-June 2009, SI of Canton/Stark County worked with the Domestic Violence Project, Inc.
of Canton to supply their clients transitioning into new homes with furniture and appliance vouchers.
Soroptimists Bev, SueAnn, Shirley and Alex went shopping for the Domestic Violence Project with the grant money!
Grant Projects -
“Master Kubota and Me,” co-authored by Soroptimist member Lois DiGiacomo and Frank Motz, was performed at Cable Recital Hall in Canton on Friday, March 20, 2009. It was a huge success, with 200 in attendance! Visiting from out of town were Past Governor Bev Bucur, Governor Elect Cheryl Fouts, District II director Missie Austin, and Helen Bailey of S.I. Mount Vernon/Knox County.
Our club received a $1200 grant from ArtsinStark, the county’s art council, to facilitate this original drama inspired by the life of Kimono artist, Itchiku Kubota.
